We are located in a small village in Khunhan District and our village shares the border with Cambodia. The most popular sports for residents in our village, like other areas in Sisaket, are football and kickboxing (as known as Muay Thai). The youth in our village enjoy playing football and kickboxing when they do not study or help with farmwork.
In the 1960s, our village was among the first to have a boxing club, of which members became professional boxers. These boxers competed in major venues in Bangkok, such as Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium. The famous ones are Wisetchai S. Tossapol and Ramkamhaeng S. Tossapol.
In the 1980s-1990s, the village school integrated football in their physical education. Motivated and excellent students received extra training after school. These students successfully became players in football clubs sponsored by companies and universities. Some of them became founders of Khunhan United Football Club. Their names and affiliations are the following:
In the 2000s, our village was the first to establish a football academy within its school. The village school academy produced successful youth players who achieved national acclaim. Consequently, parents entrust their children to Coach Dam or Prasit Srilachai, who has been the physical education teacher. Parents in Sisaket as well as other provinces in Isan Region send their children to our village school, so that their children have opportunities to practice football under Coach Dam’s supervision. To be specific, the children under his supervision came from Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Buriram, Nakhon Ratchasima, Yasothon, Mukdahan, Nakhonpanom, Kalasin, and Mahasarakham.
In addition to the village school academy, in 2016 a new football academy was established outside the village school. Both academies continued to produce both youth and professional players until today.
On weekdays during an academic year, the members of our academies go to school like their peers of the same age. Although the compulsory education in Thailand ends at Grade 9, we encourage them to continue going to high school until completion. Football training takes place after school for two hours on every weekday. To be precise, the training is scheduled at 16.30-18.30. After that they dine together and rest in the boarding house. Furthermore, there are special training sessions before football tournaments. These special sessions are typically scheduled early in the morning at 05.00-07.00.
On weekends, they are permitted to enjoy life outside the academy for 10-12 hours each day, from 06.00 to 18.00. They may go home during weekends, but they must return to the academy by 18.00 on Sunday.
Some of them are members of school football teams and join the following tournaments:
In addition to these tournaments, we offer basic training for children outside the academy in the form of Football Clinic. Furthermore, the members of our academies inspire younger children by sharing experience with them.
Last but not least, the members of our academies also participate in local activities in the community even though they are not related to football. Examples are festivals and events hosted by the village temple, the village school, or the local administration.
